This condition tends to affect women and adults over 40 more often, and it frequently gets mistaken for a simple case of tired feet until the arch has already started to collapse.

Anterior Ankle Impingement
Anterior ankle impingement happens when bone spurs or thickened soft tissue at the front of the ankle pinch together every time the foot flexes upward. The pinching sensation typically worsens with squatting, climbing stairs, or any movement that pushes the shin forward over the foot.
Bone Spurs and Haglund’s Deformity
Bone spurs can form anywhere friction and stress repeat over time, and the ankle is a common target. One notable example is Haglund’s deformity, an enlargement of bone at the back of the heel that rubs against the Achilles tendon with every step. This constant friction triggers inflammation that can become chronic if the underlying bone irregularity is never addressed.
