Dr. Daniel Almodovar-Frau is a Board-Certified Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician from Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Almodovar-Frau earned his medical degree from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors in 2019. In 2023, he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Puerto Rico where he was appointed as Chief Resident during his last year. He then pursued his post-graduate training, completing a Sports Medicine fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. During his fellowship, he served as the team physician for three local high school football teams as well as for the University of North Florida Division I Men’s and Women’s soccer, volleyball, and basketball teams. He also possesses professional experience working with elite athletes and organizations like the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB), and the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.
Dr. Almodovar-Frau’s passion for sports and fitness nurtured by his experience as a former college tennis player, prompted him to become a Certified Personal Trainer and to start his own strength and conditioning services company. He has dedicated part of his time lecturing on the fields of PM&R and sports medicine to college and medical students and has also served as a speaker discussing the role of exercise in medicine and the importance of staying physically active as we age.
He focuses on the non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries, with expertise in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, exercise prescription, strength training, and minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedures such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), percutaneous needle tenotomy, among others. Dr. Almodovar-Frau has been able to combine his personal and professional interests to provide his patients with a more holistic and well-rounded approach to care and helping them reach their maximal potential.
