There are many different types of baseball-related injuries. We proudly work with players of the Miami Marlins helping the players prevent, treat, and recover from these types of injuries. Being a professional baseball player, the chance of injury is much higher. The following are the most common baseball injuries.
Rotator Cuff Tears – A tear in the tissues connecting muscle to bone (tendons) around the shoulder joint. This is common in pitchers.
UCL (Ulnar Collateral Ligament) Injury – The UCL is the ligament that helps to connect the upper arm bone (Humerus) to one of the forearm bones (Ulna). More simply explained as an elbow injury that is also common in pitchers.
Knee Injuries (ACL and MCL) – The ACL and MCL are both ligaments that help stabilize the knee. These can be injured when stealing a base, landing on a flexed knee or twisting the knee.
Muscle Sprains and Strains
Spondylolysis – A stress fracture in one of the vertebrae at the base of the spinal column.
Prevention
- Warm up & Stretch
- Hydration – 24 ounces of fluid 2 hours before exercise, another 8 ounces right before, and then 8 ounces every 20 minutes thereafter during exercise
- Proper rest, don’t overuse

If you have a baseball injury that has already been treated, our advice is to take the directed time for rest very seriously. Do not try to return to the game sooner as this could cause further injury.
